Emergency Management - for you, your family ... for America.
Something fantastic happens when disaster strikes a community. People band together and help each other out of the crisis situation. The road to recovery begins here. The force of a community working together can usually overcome the effects of any emergency. Experience also shows that the way a community organizes itself before disaster strikes determines how effectively it can respond and help people during a crisis.
Emergency Management means being prepared for natural and man-made disasters such as tornado, flood, drought, blizzard, ice storm, earthquake, chemical spill and nuclear incident.
Emergency Management also means responding in time of crisis, and helping a community return to normal life after a disaster occurs. The four phases of Emergency Management are: Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Recovery. It is important to learn the County's warning signals, to learn how the local government can help in an emergency and to learn what you can do to protect yourself and your family.
The Cattaraugus County Office of Emergency Services works closely with the State Emergency Management Office (SEMO), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as well as all other Cattaraugus County agencies involved in the four phases of emergency management (Fire Service, Health Department, Local Emergency Planning Committee and Emergency Medical Services).
