Influenza Vaccine
Released: September 26, 2007
The Cattaraugus County Health Department announced today that it will begin holding its annual Influenza Vaccine Clinics. The Health Department has received 5,000 doses of vaccine for consumers 18 years of age and older. Vaccine has NOT yet arrived for those under age 18. Notification will be made as soon as it is received.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) suggests getting vaccinated between October and November. Even being vaccinated in December and January is encouraged because during most years, influenza does not peak until February or later.

- Persons > 2 years old with conditions that cause breathing problems
- All women who will be pregnant during influenza season
- Residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities
- Children ages 6 months to 18 years on chronic aspirin therapy
- ALL health care workers
- Out-of-home caregivers and household contacts of persons in the high-risk groups
The public is reminded to be sure to have insurance cards with them at the time of the clinics. If you do not have one of the following insurances, payment of $15.00 is expected at the time of vaccination. Insurance companies who cover cost of vaccinations include: Medicare/ Railroad Medicare; Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Community Blue and HMOs; Univera, Senior Choice and HMOs; Independent Health - Encompass 65 and HMOs; Fidelis: Today's Options, Wellcare, HealthNet Pearl, Secure Horizons, Aetna PPS and Humana.
