You see ambulances on the road all over the county, every day. But do you know that of the 1,000s of ambulance calls handled each year, over half are staffed with VOLUNTEERS??? That's right, that ambulance that just passed you is very likely to have been paid for through fundraisers and the staff inside are volunteers, completely unpaid for their service!
Hundreds of volunteer EMTs, Medics, and Rescue Personnel in Cattaraugus County spend hundreds of hours training, practicing, and responding to calls for help - all on their own time and out of the goodness in their hearts. These people take time away from their families and friends to respond at a moments notice to care for those in need.
This week is National EMS Week. It's the perfect time to reach out to those dedicated volunteer EMS providers in your community and thank them for all they do. Even if you've never had to call 9-1-1 and use their service, be thankful - but be confident that if you do, they will be there.
Thank your local EMTs, you never know when you may need their help!
