CATTARAUGUS COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

LOCATED IN LITTLE VALLEY, NEW YORK

Based in the historic county seat of Little Valley, New York, the Department of Public Works includes Engineering, Highway, Fleet, and Refuse divisions. JOB DESCRIPTION

This work involves measurements of space, water, land, and structures to determine boundaries, areas, elevations, alignments, and locations; evaluating and analyzing field data; and researching public and private land records. This position involves the survey of County lands/boundaries as well as title research and investigation in connection with administrative management, acquisition, trespass, occupancy, and adverse claim of title, and in hydrographic and engineering surveys. An Assistant Land Surveyor exercises independent judgment on complex highway or County land boundary determinations. An Assistant Land Surveyor does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

  • Exercises independent judgment regarding complex highway or County land boundary determinations
  • Assists establishment of standards and procedures utilized in surveying
  • May manage project priorities, staff, schedules, and consultant services to deliver land surveying program
  • Ensures quality control of survey related products and data integrity
  • May provide direct supervision and technical direction of field and/or office staff, and may provide guidance and direction to survey consultants
  • Plans, coordinates and performs with the assistance of staff members, field work involving surveying land to determine precise locations and measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction map-making or other purposes
  • Researches previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) examination.

SALARY RANGE & BENEFITS

  • $74,000-$81,000 annual salary
