A Message from the Director, Cathy Mackay, of the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging.

The world is kind of a scary place right now. With people hunkering down and practicing social distancing, it is giving us more time to sit in front of our televisions and watch the news tickers. Watching the endless updates can be addictive. It can also be unhealthy. Social isolation and increased anxiety are a toxic mix. We at the Cattaraugus County Department of Aging want you to know that you are NOT ALONE.

We are extremely happy you are staying in your homes and following safety and health protocols. We want to assure you that we remain diligent in our mission to serve the older adults in our communities. While we are asking that you refrain from leaving your homes to come to our office in Olean, our staff can still be reached to assist you by phoning us at 716-373-8032.

If you need anything at all, please don’t hesitate to call us. We are working closely with the Emergency Operations Center and can provide you with basic food and other necessary supplies so that you don’t need to venture out. We are able to deliver a variety of everyday items. Additionally, we can add you to our “friendly phone chain” if you just need a pleasant voice to chat with occasionally.

If you are concerned for a neighbor or a loved one, call the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging today at 716-373-8032. Stay safe. Stay healthy. Know that we care.
